Radiation Safety at Missouri State

Missouri State University and its Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) is committed to a radiation plan of the highest quality, in compliance with all state and federal regulations, as well as ensuring exposure to radioactivity and all sources of ionizing radiation to University personnel and members of the public are maintained ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).

Scientific and medical equipment may contain isotopes or produce x-ray radiation. Equipment of this type must be licensed federally or by the state.  If equipment of this type is being looked at for purchase, please contact Research Administration before purchasing as licensing may need to be obtained before equipment is delivered or special receiving protocols may need to be followed. Purchase of all isotopes must be done through the RSO, please contact Johnna Pedersen to purchase.

Research or classes involving radiation from x-ray or isotopes must reach out to Research Administration with a protocol or SOP and may need to go through RSC for approval before work begins.  Radiation safety training may also be applicable.  Please keep in mind, state or federal licensing may need to be obtained and may take some time for approval.
