HIPAA Training
HIPAA Training Requirements for Researchers
The MSU IRB requires all investigators (including student researchers) proposing to conduct research involving protected health information (PHI) complete HIPAA training. The University uses online training modules through CITI to meet this requirement.
If the proposed research involves protected health information (PHI), researchers must complete the online training through CITI. The Certificate of Completion, or Completion report, available at the completion of the training module is to be downloaded and attached to the application in Cayuse IRB.
Faculty, staff, and student employees (including graduate assistants) must access these training modules through CITI Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) Training.
HIPAA Training completed on or after October 1, 2018 must be through CITI. We will no longer be accepting training certification through other training sites.
